ENOC 82m Chimney Tower Demolition

Diamond Edge Cutting was appointed by ENOC to dismantle an 82-metre steel-reinforced concrete chimney tower at Jebel Ali, Dubai, where environmental conditions ruled out conventional methods. A purpose-built spider demolition machine — a Liebherr excavator mounted on a specially engineered six-legged base — was modified in Germany with a radio-based remote control system to allow operation from outside the structure, meeting ENOC's stringent safety requirements. The machine was shipped to Dubai, assembled on-site, and lifted to the top of the tower by a 500-tonne mobile crane. Working downward at roughly 3.5–4m per day, the tower was demolished to 15m above site level, with the remaining section taken down by conventional excavators and breakers — delivered safely and to the client's full satisfaction.
